Hello, I'm your host, Rachel, and I'm a mesothelioma nurse specialist working for a charity called Hassag.
I'm very excited to bring to you this brand new podcast, Breathe Strong, which is for patients who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma and EGFR positive lung cancer. The podcast is called Breathe Strong and the thoughts behind the title came from patients themselves.
Breathlessness is one of the most common symptoms experienced by mesothelioma and lung cancer patients and we know that this symptom can be very distressing, impact on your physical function and be very scary and cause great anxiety for many, many patients. However, it's been my experience that when I bring patients together to share their experiences, a lot of the fear and anxiety can be alleviated.
Therefore, as a community, we are stronger together. The whole ethos and purpose of the podcast is to bring patients together to look at how they live with these diagnosis.
So we will look at topics such as diagnosis and the impact of having a cancer diagnosis on your life. How do you tell your family about that and your friends working, because many patients now are much younger and they want to carry on working.
How do we do that going on holiday? Intimate relationships, because we know that these are very important for a normal life and living with your diagnosis.
But we'll also look at the more tricky topics that often people don't like talking about that can be end of life, preparing for end of life, what happens when treatment stops, side effects of treatment, and how that can impact on you. And we hope that by sharing our experiences, we can provide others with some support and advice.
So don't forget to subscribe to this podcast, which we hope you will find very beneficial and we look forward to welcoming you to being part of our community.
